ONE DAY TRAIN

On September 11, 2011, I travelled via train from Washington, DC to NYC and back. The purpose of my trip was to meet my new nephew, only four days old. But the significance was much greater. It was 10 years ago, while living within a couple miles of the Pentagon, that I went into labor with my second daughter. While playing outside with my 22-month-old, I heard the impact of American Airlines Flight #77 and knew that something was horribly wrong. In the early morning hours of September 12, 2001, we made our way to the hospital, somberly driving past the Pentagon, still ablaze, recovery efforts still underway. Life was changing in so many ways.

It's been over ten years now. Everyone has a 9/11 story, a heartfelt story of how their life changed. This trip in 2011 to NYC was filled with life. My new nephew, renewed spirits, memorials, and growth.

These photographs are as circular as my day, and representative of the decade, there and back.
